Gerard Le Clerc studied with Margaret Rowell in San Francisco, Maître Pierre Fournier in Geneva and with Jacqueline du Pré in London. He has lived in Switzerland since 1978 and speaks English and French fluently.

He has been teaching cello at the COV of Morges and Nyon for 29 years. With the support of the COV's management, he has been presenting his cello students 'in orchestra' at the Morges Hospital for a traditional end-of-year festive concert, with the aim of sharing and presenting the work of his students to the hospital's patients. His teaching is directed towards the 'indoor cello, - sound is the sound of the body and our work as cellists is to bring it out of the brain-short with a vision and use of the body as natural as possible.

He gave his 'recital debuts' at the Lincoln Centre, Merlin Hall and Wigmore Hall in London in 1981 and 1983. He has joué́ as solo cello for 12 years in Geneva in a chamber orchestra which still exists under the name 'Orchestre de Chambre de Genève'. He has performed in concert with the Geneva pianist Muriel Slatkine since 1981, in the USA, England, France, Switzerland, Egypt and Israel. He has donné́ different master-classes with pianist Muriel Slatkine at the Château de Frontenay in the French Jura for his students between 1985 and 1993.

He was Artist and Honorary President of the Concert Association 'Musique au Jardin' in Montfrin, near Avignon in France between 1996 and 2011. This association pré́sente15 concerts per year.

 

Gerard Le Clerc has recorded many CD's with his partner Muriel Slatkine, the latest CD, the Chopin and Strauss Sonatas at EMI Studios in Switzerland. He has recorded a solo CD with the works of composer Alain Ridout, with the English Chamber Orchestra of London, conducted by Stephen Barlow and with actress Joanna Lumley. He has also recorded three CDs of jazz music with the singer Bérangère Mastrangelo,

Gerard Le Clerc presented various Master Classes at Davis University in California in 2016, a conference and a concert on his professor Jacqueline du Pré in favor of the New York Cello Society at the Liberkranz Institute in New York in 2015, as well as Master Classes in England in the city of Hungerford. Gerard Le Clerc plays with a cello by Giovanni Cavani that Jacqueline du Pré has chosen for him.
