Pfretzschner Hermann Richard, violin bow, Markneukirchen.

One of the best-known German bow makers workshops is Hermann Richard Pfretzschner’s. The quality of the bows produced by this family from Markneukirchen is characterised by great reactivity and a rapid response to the string, putting them in direct competition with French bows. From 1874 to 1880, Hermann Richard Pfretzschner worked in J B Vuillaume's workshop. On his return, he opened his own workshop in Markneukirchen. On 1 February 1901, Hermann Richard received the title of official supplier to the Saxon court and the right to use its coat of arms (two lions supporting a shield), which he systematically applied to the heads and then the frogs of his bows. The workshop continues to use these coats of arms to this day. This bow is a magnificent example of the refined workmanship of this workshop. It is available for trial in our workshop.
