Thomassin Claude Auguste, violin bow, Paris circa 1910

Born and trained in Mirecourt, the first appearance of Claude Auguste Thomassin working in Paris is for the firm Gand & Bernardel, in 1885. He matured his craft working for the brothers until 1901, when they sold the firm to Caressa & Français. He then settled on his own, making a lage number of bows, yet still working for his former employers, as shown on this stunning exemplary from around 1910. His name is today recognised and prized for the excellent quality of his production. Source : L'archet, by Bernard Milland and Jean François Raffin, Paris, 2000.
