Pirot Claude, violin, Paris 1795-1800

Claude Pirot was a parisian luthier who, together with Nicolas Lupot and Francois-Louis Pique, represent the new violin making that emerges after the French revolution. The methods and esthetics of the old masters (Vieux Paris) where brutally discarded by the new regime. This violin, made around 1795-1800, is very typical of this early period with a Stradivari model, a thin varnish but high in color density. Here, the rich brown-red colour seems to have penetrated the wood. This is the genesis of the great French Lutherie.
